Tuesday May 7th
It is already May 7th. The month is over 1/4 done. Unbelievable.
So, today in my France class. We did 'art' though it really much. We were making cards for parents day which is coming up. Anyway, Andy as usual was not doing his work. So I pretty much made the card for him. He did not write anything. So, when it is time to clean up, his card ends up in the trash. So I hold the class asking who did it and nobody responded. I asked again, everyone said no. I erased a star from everyone. I did the same thing. It was a standoff. I erase another star from everyone. Finally Sally says she did it. I take Sally to Christine (my Korean coteacher) and have her talk to Sally. Sally said she thought it was trash so she threw it away. Not as in trash like he did a bad job, but she thought it was refuse. She could have been doing it because she can be a trouble maker, or I could picture Andy crumpling it up and throwing it on the floor (as he does with some things) and she threw it away without looking. So during snack time/play time, I had them work together to make a new one. It was incredible. Andy actually worked, and Sally took a leadership role and really helped him. Fast forward, at the end of class there was some drama between Andy and Sally. I told Sam, and he said he takes Andy's side. It seems like Sam and Christine just both do not like Sally. I love her. Out of all of my students in all of my classes, she almost always seems to have the passion and desire to learn and try. Granted she is not good at work and definitely causes distractions. She acts and I feel a kid should. She has a good time, smiles, jokes around, and has such an energy. Yes, she is not the best student in any sense of the word, but she is almost the most real (at least how I imagine a kid should be). Even though I like her, I still erase more of her stars than anyone else and am just as tough (if not more tough) on her. Maybe tough love... I can see how teachers in my past treated me different, though as a child I did not like it, as an adult, I understand they were pushing me to become better than the rest. They were teaching me to shine.
My Korea class was good, though only after I bought them food. They had their placement test today. The same one I gave my Canada class last week. It make the already barely functioning kids into not functioning kids. No answers, no participations. So I had Christina teacher go buy them col-pops from me. I also got one for me too. After that, they perked up and we might have had one of the best classes with them ever. So I started a party point system with them. If we get 30 points, I will buy them food again. They seem to like food (which I understand, because I like food, and these kids are sitting in ECC for 3 hours). I know some teachers here would rather not spend their own money, but I dont mind. Spending 7 dollars to get the kids food, which shows them that I actually will, well if they do start acting good, I have no qualms about rewarding them. It is a small price to pay to make my life a little easier and less stressful.
After work, Rob and I went to Times Square Mall to watch Iron Man 3 in 4D. Who else was at the mall? Will Smith. Yes, the fresh prince was there promoting his new movie. So we got to see him for a few minutes. If we did not have a movie to get to, I would have gotten to the front and shouted something to him. But, never the less, we had to go.
4D is gimmicky but awesome! The chairs move. They vibrate. The have little prods that poke you in the back or on the bottom. Air blasts you, mist hits you, and they pump smells into the theatre. Of course, you also wear 3D glasses. The prices is about the price of an IMax in NYC. Definitely a fun thing to do. Also interesting, the previews before the movies... well most of them are advertisements for products. Not 30 minutes of movies coming soon. I think we had maybe 3 movies that were coming soon. Then there were probably 7 minutes of advertisements. It was entertaining. The movie was pretty good. I think I like 1,3,2. The second one just did not do it for me.
So now I am home, typing, and will be going to bed soon.
Now I have even more pictures to post... maybe I'll get around to it this week.
Also, I think every week I will highlight one of my classes starting with my Kindy kids. Just so when I am talking about them, you will know a little more about the classes.
